Dr. Anton Hofreiter has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005. He served on the Transportation Committee from 2005 to 2013 and was the co-leader of the Green Party’s parliamentary group in the Bundestag alongside Katrin Göring-Eckardt from 2013 to 2021. Since 2021, he has been the Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs.

Hofreiter was born in Munich and grew up in Sauerlach, in the Munich district. He joined the Greens in 1986 and has held positions as a municipal and district councillor. He holds a diploma in biology and earned his PhD at the Institute for Systematic Botany at the LMU. His research expeditions on biodiversity have taken him to South America. His political focuses are primarily on the preservation of democracy and natural habitats, and more recently, on the implications of the geopolitical shift.
