Matthias Hunecke, born in 1976, has been an entrepreneur since his school days and has initiated or been involved in around 40 companies since then. He sold his first corporation in 2001 after it had achieved a turnover of more than 100 million euros.

As Managing Director, he developed his founding idea Brille24.de into the best-selling portal for prescription glasses in Europe and one of the world’s leading online opticians. At the beginning of 2012, Hunecke handed over operational management and moved to the Advisory Board. In January 2019, the company was fully acquired by the global market leader, the Essilor Luxottica Group.

The serial entrepreneur from Bünde (North Rhine-Westphalia) now lives in Oldenburg, where he also studied economics at the Carl von Ossietzky University, specializing in computer science. Since 2006, he has been involved in the university’s Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship. He is an advisor and mentor to the GO Startup Center and a member of the Startup Advisory Board of the Minister of Economic Affairs of Lower Saxony. He also supports the Steps for Children Foundation, of which he is a member of the Board of Trustees.
